Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Full Member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society.He studied at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute and completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. He defended his Candidate of Sciences (PhD) dissertation in 1968 and his Doctor of Sciences (DSc) dissertation in 1989.
In 1966–1969, he served as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Differential Equations of Ivan Franko State University of Lviv, and from 1969 until the end of his life, he worked at institutions of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: the Physico-Mechanical Institute, the Lviv Branch of Mathematical Physics of the Institute of Mathematics, and the Institute for Applied Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics. Starting in 2007, he headed the Division of Physico-Technical and Mathematical Sciences and led the Section of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling at the Western Scientific Center of the NAS of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
He founded a scientific school on the theory of conditionally well-posed problems for partial differential equations.
Scientific interests: theory of partial differential equations, theory of branched continued fractions, history of mathematics.
