Mathematician, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of Lviv University. Full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society.
Studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of Lviv University (1890–1894). Attended lectures by Landau in Berlin and Klein in Göttingen. He was the first student of Prof. Puzyna to receive a doctorate in mathematics and the author of the first Ukrainian-language scientific article in mathematics, published in the "Notes of the Shevchenko Scientific Society" in 1894.
Worked as a teacher at the Academic Gymnasium with Ukrainian language of instruction and the 5th Gymnasium, the private women's gymnasium of Mrs. Kamerling, and the women's seminary of the Ukrainian Pedagogical Society in Lviv, as well as the higher gymnasium in Ternopil. He was an inspector of secondary schools and an instructor of mathematics and physics teachers. He taught at university courses and at the secret Ukrainian University in Lviv. Since 1939 he has been a professor of mathematics at the Lviv Pedagogical University, and since 1940 he has also worked at Lviv University.
Member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society since 1894, and its full member since 1899. He was a long-time head of the mathematics section and editor of the Shevchenko Scientific Society’s publications. Head of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in 1932–1934.
Scientific interests: theory of functions, differential and integral equations, algebra and number theory, geometry. Author of scientific works not only in mathematics, but also in physics, astronomy, as well as works on the terminology of mathematics and natural sciences. Author of school textbooks in mathematics and physics.
