Sheremetyev Mykhailo

(November 21, 1905, Odintsi, Smolensk Governorate – July 27, 1973, Lviv)
Scholar in the field of mechanics, professor, Honored Scientist of the Ukrainian SSR, and one of the founders of the Lviv scientific school of mechanics.
He graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Smolensk University and the Advanced Engineering and Pedagogical Courses at the Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School. He pursued postgraduate studies at the Belorussian Academy of Sciences, specializing in the "theory of elasticity," and subsequently enrolled in targeted postgraduate studies at Dnipropetrovsk University, where he defended his candidate thesis in 1936.
He began working at Lviv University in 1945, serving at the Department of Theoretical Mechanics and the Department of Geometry. Also, he worked at the Lviv Branch of the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. Following his doctoral studies (doktorantura) at the Institute of Mechanics of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow (1950–1952), he returned to Lviv, where he defended his doctoral dissertation. He served as Head of the Department of Mechanics and later as Head of the Department of the Theory of Elasticity and Plasticity.
Scientific interests: theory of elasticity, elastic equilibrium of plates and shells with reinforced edges.
