Associate Professor at Lviv University (1913–1917), Professor at the University of Warsaw (1918–1919).
Studied mathematics and philosophy at the universities of Zürich, Göttingen, Paris, Munich, Marburg, and Graz. Defended his doctoral dissertation at the Sorbonne University (supervisor Henri Lebesgue).
Creator of the program for the development of Polish mathematics after World War I, founder of the world's first specialized mathematical journal "Fundamenta Mathematicae", and one of the founders of the Warsaw School of Mathematics.
Scientific interests: topology. Author of 9 scientific publications and 13 popular science articles.
Zygmunt Janiszewski died prematurely in Lviv. His grave at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv was considered lost for decades. On the hundredth anniversary of his death, in January 2020, the original tombstone was found.
